Johnny Depp 4

I saw Pirates of the Caribbeans 4 - On Stranger Tides. You want my honest opinion? Well...

Even though this movie was not supposed to exist (POTC was written to be a trilogy), I have to say the plot had logic. With some connection to the first plots, Jack Sparrow, Black Beard, Barbarossa and Gibs (and some British and some Spanish people) go to find the Fountain of Youths.

You know me, I do not spoil the plot. But. There were a few extremes:

  • pirates vs zombies (well, they were called zombified people)
  • humans vs mermaids (yes, you read well, mermaids, butkeep in mind they are evil bitches)
  • God vs voodoo vs atheism vs whatever-i-need-to-keep-me-going (the presence of a God worshiper on a ship is an interesting... social exercise to see)
  • British vs. pirates
  • British vs. Spanish
  • Rich vs pirate-poor
  • a whole lotta more, i can't think about now.
Well. It is a Pirates of the Caribbeans movie: a lot of sea/water and ships on it, dirty drunk pirates which high amount of black eyeliner, pretty boys (it still has Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush as Barbarossa, Ian McShane as Blackbeard, Kevin McNally as Gibbs) and pretty girls, and, overall, it still looks as brilliant as the first three, it still is funny, it was shot in marvelous places, the makeup and costumes and sets are brilliant too, it has a lot of details that I enjoyed (like the fact that Jack's Dad -played by Keith Reichards from Rolling Stones- randomly appears, the cabinet with all the ships, the zombies tattoos, etc) and have I mentioned there's still Johnny Depp in it?

Well. There are some things that make 4 not your typical POTC movie: no Orlando Bloom, no Keira Knightley, but it has Penelope Cruz. I love me some beautifully looking and pretty accent Penelope Cruz. Also, there is a fair amount of booms: explosions and overall wrecking stuff. It has a few... stereotypes, besides the pirates: the stiff British, the clerical Spanish, the man-eater mermaids (yes, everybody knows that's true, shhhh).

I have to say the movie is kinda long. I considered 2,30h was a bit too much, they could've narrowed it down. Also, it wasn't that funny. As funny as the first ones were. But I enjoyed it more because i did not expected most of the plot twists (every time something unpredictable happened, this was my face: :O, and then I screamed 'that was awesome!'). I enjoyed that. Of course, I am going to say that HANS ZIMMER IS [still] A GOD. [he's the one who wrote the music... he is a god, worship him].

One last thing:
I highly recommend not to pay the money for the 3D. Normal digital will do. It is a really crappy 3D, and I watched more than half of the movie without glasses. Go watch the movie. But not in 3d. Savy?

Ok. I realize this is a bit long for my standards. But... there's a lot to say about this movie!!! And, meeeh. All you 3 people who read this won't mind, will you? :)

Have a nice day. Stalk me on twitter, facebook, tumblr, whatever :)

PS: If this is the end of the world... I am easily amused.
